When life gives you lemons …

… open a lemonade stand somewhere.

Most of the recent news stories about lemonade stands, often young children’s first forays into the business world, concerned attempts by local government agencies to shut them down on some pretext or other. A while back, columnist and TV guy John Stossel described an ordeal he endured when trying to open one in New York City.

Here’s the lemonade motif in reverse:

It seems a lad named T.J. Guerrero had been selling cookies and lemonade in a residential neighborhood, and a resident was annoyed by whatever commotion might have been caused by T.J.’s activities. The neighbor complained. A town official, Greg Rice, retorted:

“We’re not in the business of trying to regulate kids like that; nor do we want to do any code enforcement like that. We are not out there trying to put lemonade stands out of business.”

I do hope Mr. Rice doesn’t aspire to a job in municipal government in, say, New York City or Connecticut. He’d be doomed to disappointment.

Here’s National Review Online’s Andrew Johnson’s take on the story.
